The Flurry is a JumpShip formerly operated by the moustachio'd Captain Lucas, who was killed by a rampaging horde of Deadly Deadly Robots. The ship is now the primary means of transportation between parallel universes for Meaney and Llewellyn. Lucas didn't keep the ship in very good repair and, as a result, it doesn't quite function quite as adequately as it should do. Most notably the Homing Pigeon Circuit and Camouflage System don't work.

Originally, Lucas had wanted to name his JumpShip Serenity, however Captain Whedon had already given his ship this name. "Flurry" is listed as an informal antonym of "serenity" in the Microsoft Word 2003 Dictionary/Thesaurus.

[edit] Disrepair

It seems that Captain Lucas was quite terrible at keeping the ship operating properly. At the time he set off on with Meaney and Llewellyn, the ship was evidently using its back-up Homing Pigeon Circuit and had been for about eight months (although Captain Whedon's Log Entry dated 2007-07-06 suggests that it had been non-functional for closer to eleven months). The Camouflage System, which you can assume is designed to disguise the outward appearance of the vessel, doesn't work at all and there's no indication of how long that particular system has been non-functional.

The HPC is something of a sore spot - Lucas was aware that the back-up had stopped working, as a warning light on the control panel indicated him as such after he made his jump with Meaney and Llewellyn, although he chose to ignore it, saying instead that he'd fix it once they finished the task at hand. Instead he went and got himself killed by Deadly Deadly Robots. This just goes to show that you should never put off 'til later what you can do now, because there may not be a later to do it in.
