I received a rather interesting email from a fan named Tom this afternoon:
"Looked through your blog and saw you originally sent the script to the bbc, but they didn't pick it up... You've probably been asked this question a hundred times but if it had been made as a TV show instead of the webcomic who would you want to see cast as Meaney and Llewellyn?"
Well, Tom, I've
never been asked this question before. Ever. And, if I'm being honest, I've never really put much thought into who I'd want to see cast in a TV version. I've thought about who I'd want doing the incidental music (it's a very close tie between Graeme Norgate, one of Free Radical Design's superb musicians, and Bjorn Lynne, who was Team 17 Software's music man until about two years ago) but I've never sat down and contemplated who I'd like to see playing Meaney or Llewellyn. About a year ago a friend of mine,
Adam, told me after reading the script that Llewellyn put him in mind of Hugh Laurie (presumably a younger Hugh Laurie), but beyond that? No idea.
Thinking about it though, I reckon Mackenzie Crook could make a good Meaney (even if he does look more like Llewellyn), although he is perhaps a little too old for the role. Llewellyn's a tricky one though. For some reason I'm leaning towards Noel Clarke, who played Mickey in the revived
Doctor Who. The secondary characters come much more easily to mind, though. Captain Whedon would probably work well being played by someone like Steve Coogan, while Lucas would probably be better suited to, say, Rowan Atkinson or Neil Morrisey.
But what do you think? Who do you think would be better suited to the roles? Pop over to
this forum thread to discuss!
