I'd like to take a little time to talk to you about a very spiffy webcomic called
Marooned by Tom Dell'Aringa. No, no, please don't shut your front door. This will only take a moment of your time.
Marooned can be described as a scifi webcomic about an incompetent Astronaut and his robotic sidekick as they struggle with the harsh realities of being trapped on Mars with no hope of returning to Earth. It can also be described as the story of an Astronaut having to deal with a smart-arsed A.I whilst making contact with a new alien species, and also as the story of an increasingly frustrated super-intelligent robot trying to cope with a supposedly "qualified" Astronaut who in reality has all the space-faring expertise of a dead starfish.
The art style is simple, almost remeniscent in places of
Station V3, but like Truszkowski's art it does a brilliant job of putting across exactly what it needs to do. Dell'Aringa isn't afraid to try more complex stuff than Truszkowski either, and while it's mostly hit-and-miss it doesn't detract from the comic as a whole. The jokes are pretty giggle-worthy too - Dell'Aringa knows the comic strip format well, and will quite happy jump between using three panels, four, or even a bunch of teeny-tiny ones where necessary.
Marooned has been going since March and so far has a pretty hefty archive which is well worth exploring. So... y'know, go explore it. It's definitely worth your time.
