Oh ho ho! I maked a funny!
I'm on a train as I type this, surrounded by people far geekier than I can ever claim to be. One of the guys has set up a wireless network with internet access on the train, so that just goes to show. Incredible.
I've had a simply amazing weekend. PAX was a real experience - I picked up a lot of really cool swag including one of the much-covetted Fallout 3 Vault Boy puppets, signed copies of all of MC Frontalot's albums (including his new album, Final Boss, which isn't out until November), and the Collector's Edition of On The Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode One. I also picked up all four volumes of Scott Pilgrim - I'd always been dismissive of the series, but the Oni Press guys convinced me to give it a go. I bought the first two books, ploughed through them in one night, and bought the next two immediately the next day.
Perhaps the highlight of the event was when Scott Kurtz introduced me to Wil Wheaton, who told me he liked Jump Leads. I was absolutely dumbfounded. I may have peed in my pants (which sure as Hell beats peeing in someone elses, ahaha).
The people involved with the West Coast Train Trip are absolutely fantastic. I can't think of a single person on this train I dislike, nor one I wouldn't consider a friend. I'm also surprised and impressed by the sense of community within this group - one of the organisers, George, boarded the train in the foulest of moods. He'd just had to buy a replacement return ticket, as he'd accidentally lost his and Amtrak had forced him to buy a new one for just shy of $180. But this is a group that looks after its own. Half an hour later the group had collected every dollar. I absolutely love these guys. Like, more than friends.
I will definitely be PAX-bound again next year. I had been considering flying up to Seattle next year but honestly, I've had so much fun on the train that I feel it's worth the 35/40-hour slog.
