One of the things I've noticed with issue #2, and it's also been brought to my attention by one or two of my co-workers, is that the plot for Issue # is plodding along at a fairly slow rate. We're 16 pages in and we're only now getting to the meat of the story. That's nothing to do with JjAR's panel placement. Oh-ho, no. It's more to do with my writing.
One of the things you have to remember is that the first two issues of Jump Leads were originally written with television in mind. I had pitched the idea to the BBC and even sent them a script which received some very positive feedback (I always enjoy telling people that the BBC love my writing, but feel a little saddened when I mention that they turned it down purely because it's a scifi-sitcom). Consequently, as Issue #2 was written with a different medium in mind, the pacing is not great. The script for this issue was actually shortened to improve the pacing, but JjAR accidentally based the first few pages on the longer version of the script.
I have obviously been writing scripts for future issues (although issues #3 and #4 have been written by other people, because I'm keen to get some of the great writers I know involved in the comic), and I have been taking the webcomic two-pages-a-week medium to mind when writing these news stories. I apologise for the poor pacing of Issue #2, but I promise you it's going to get a lot better.
